Strengthening of the Environmental Technology Manufacturing Sector (ETMS) in the province of Jiangsu, China |
In 1999 the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Beijing started a project together with the China Enterprise Confederation (CEC) to strengthen the Environmental Technology Manufacturing Sector (ETMS) in China. For the project area the province of Jiangsu was chosen because it is a highly industrialised province and as such heavily polluted at that time.
The overall goal of the project was to improve the quality of the environment in Jiangsu, and subsequently in other parts of China, by the introduction of advanced environmental technology from The Netherlands. The mechanism for encouraging Dutch companies (SME type) to start exploiting a market in China was “Matchmaking”, and the means to facilitate this process was a subsidy more or less compatible with the Programme for Cooperation with Emerging Markets (PSOM.)
Over a period of six years many interested Dutch Small and Medium Enterprises came to China to see if their technology was of interest to the Chinese market. |
