Emergency Rehabilitation of Drainage System of Banda Aceh, Indonesia |
The objective of the assignment is to provide consultancy services to the British/Australian Non Governmental Organization Muslim Aid (MA) reviewing and improving as necessary the designs, preparing the bidding documents, providing advise during the tendering process, bid evaluations and contract award and to supervise the implementation of the emergency rehabilitation of the storm water drainage system of Banda Aceh’s city centre damaged or destroyed by the December 2004 earthquake and tsunami. This will enable a safe habitable environment for the population displaced by the tsunamis and for which vast housing reconstruction programs were being implemented.
Rehabilitation and reconstruction of the drainage systems also provide immediate relief from flooding and the elimination of health hazards caused by mostly stagnant wastewater in the open drains. In general the project will contribute in creating a less risky physical environment for the economic recovery, facilitating and encouraging investments and long-term sustainability of the affected areas.
The scope of work of the project includes:
-
Rehabilitation and reconstruction of the (open) drainage system, including repair of existing but damaged drainage channels in the commercial and heavily populated city centre of Banda Aceh;
-
Design and reconstruction of 3 new pumping stations;
-
The rehabilitation / replacement of approximately 30 damaged minor drainage outlets in the city limits of Banda Aceh.
Supporting activities include community consultations, institutional strengthening and capacity building of the local government’s staff, including awareness campaigns and specific training of local residents benefitting from the newly constructed drainage facilities. |
